Last updated: August 29, 2019

SeriousFun Children’s Network (“SeriousFun”) respects your right to privacy. We are committed to protecting your personal information.

We encourage you to read this Privacy Policy carefully. It describes the practices and procedures that we have established to safeguard and appropriately handle your personal information. Among other things, it tells you what information we collect, how we use it, and it outlines your rights regarding that information, rights for example to correct, change or to otherwise control your information.

Just as important, in our view, this Privacy Policy and the practices and procedures that it describes, affirms our commitment to abide by applicable data privacy and security laws and to good and ethical business practice.

WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND HOW WE COLLECT IT

Personal information”, as used in this Privacy Policy, is any information relating to an identified or identifiable person. An identifiable person is someone who can be identified, directly or indirectly, by reference to an identifier such as a name, an email address, an identification number, location data, online identifier or to one of more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that person.

You may refuse to provide such personal information, but that may prevent us from being able to register you for an event, to accept your gift, or to communicate with you, or to keep you updated.

Before we first collect your personal information, you will be asked to review this Privacy Policy. You may at any time withdraw your consent to our collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information, on reasonable notice, subject to legal restrictions. We will inform you of the implications of so withdrawing your consent.

2. Information we receive from passive use of our website

SeriousFun also collects information about your use of our website through technology such as cookies. A “cookie” is a unique numeric code we transfer to your computer so we can, for example, keep track of site performance, validate your user session, track the pages that you visit and links that you click within our site, and recognize you as a return visitor to our site.  When you first visit our site, our website will prompt you to acknowledge our use of cookies and to review our Cookie Policy.

HOW AND FOR HOW LONG WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We may use your personal information:

  • To process your request or your donation.
  • To communicate with you about your request, comment, donation, or event registration.
  • To keep you informed about SeriousFun events and fundraising activities, for as long as we have your affirmative consent to do so.
  • To comply with our legal, regulatory, compliance, or auditing obligations.

We will only collect and use personal information that you choose to give us, that is necessary for our legitimate business purposes, that is required by law or regulation, or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy.

We will retain your personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to carry out the purposes for which it was collected.

HOW AND WHY WE MIGHT SHARE YOUR INFORMATION

SeriousFun will not disclose your personal information to others without your consent to do so, except:

  • To carry out the purposes for which you have provided it to us, including in accordance with our Cookie Policy;
  • To comply with our legal, regulatory, compliance, or auditing obligations.

In any such case, SeriousFun will require recipients to comply with the terms of this Privacy Policy and all applicable data privacy and security laws.

In the unlikely event that we discover that a recipient is using personal information in a way that conflicts with this Privacy Policy, we will take all reasonable steps to stop them.

We do not permit third-party advertisers to display their advertisements on our website.

VISITING CAMP WEBSITES AND OTHER THIRD PARTIES

When using our camp locator buttons or links, whether for volunteering or for registering a camper, you will be directed away from the SeriousFun site to navigate the website of the particular camp that you selected.  For information about how your personal information is protected while visiting a camp website, please review that camp’s posted privacy policy.

Similarly, when you click on links to other third-party sites or web applications, such as when sharing SeriousFun information on your preferred social media platforms, you are no longer on our site.  Please review the privacy policies of such third parties.

TRANSFERRING INFORMATION ABROAD

Under some circumstances, we may need to transfer personal information from one jurisdiction to another, including to jurisdictions where the laws provide different protection than the jurisdiction where you are located when we collect your personal information.  In any such case, we will take appropriate measures to ensure that personal information is transferred, processed, and protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy and all applicable data privacy and security laws.

INFORMATION SECURITY SAFEGUARDS

SeriousFun has implemented commercially reasonable security safeguards to protect your personal information against loss or theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification.

We employ layered security in our systems. Only designated employees have access to hard copies of your personal information. All online transactions are processed on a secure server. This means that information entered on the transaction page (donation and community pages) is encrypted using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) before transmission.

Credit card information is stored in the Blackbaud Payment Service (BBPS), which integrates with Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) compliant versions of The Raiser’s Edge (our fundraising database) and Blackbaud NetCommunity (our web hosting and content management system). BBPS is a “cloud” program that makes it possible to adhere to The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS).  Because credit card information is stored on BBPS, credit card numbers and data are not visible in any of our software applications.  In each software application, credit card numbers are replaced with reference tokens.  When credit card transactions are processed (for example, in recurring gifts), the software application connects to the BBPS.  The reference token in the software application will summon the stored credit card number to be used in the transaction. Staff cannot access your credit card information at any time. Furthermore, Security Metrics monitors the security of SeriousFun Children’s Network’s servers and does routine scans to ensure our PA-DSS & PCI-DSS compliance.

All of our credit card transactions are processed by Blackbaud Merchant & Payment Services. A donation will show up on a credit card statement as SeriousFun.

You will also notice in your website address bar that the domain name starts with an “https” on our donation and community pages. This means that information entered on those pages is encrypted for your security.

If you have any questions regarding the security of your credit card donation online, please Email info@seriousfunnetwork.org, or call 203.562.1203 for more information.
